a few years back, drummer ted parsons [swans, prong, jesu, killing joke] spent some time hanging out in london with ex-PIL guitarist keith levene, jamming, chewing the fat, having a few beers and making plans to record together... eventually, a few years later, keith found himself in oslo’s mok studios alongside ted and the rest of the NIC crew - keyboard wizard markus o klyve, texan guitarist and vocalist chuck frazier, bassist matti hansen, audio/dub scientist fredrik (kjeks) kjelman, producer scotty hard and an elastic bag full of flexible ideas... this is the result, a ravishing album of laid-back and funkadelic tunes... vibrant, intensely textured guitars and keyboards layered over complex rolling rhythms sprinkled with some sweet soul vocals... and to cap it all they managed to recruit legendary norwegian trumpeter nils petter molvær to contribute some beautifully haunting trumpet on track 4, tume...

teledubgnosis (drummer ted parsons, producer/audio alchemist jason wolford, and multi-instrumentalist gregory damien grinnell) are ambient dub metal scientists, dark riddim warriors, noise sculptors and industrial roots rockers...imagine the ragged sonics of adrian sherwood’s on-u sound label mated with the low end depth of a bill laswell recording, and you’re getting close… or think of what the stooges might have sounded like had lee perry been at the mixing desk… the sound of teledubgnosis can also be described as organics taking form - the organics that arise from exploiting the tech... following teledubgnosis’ critically acclaimed magnetic learning center (2003, wordsound recordings), this split release pushes the teledub method into uncharted but fertile territory as the tech included using an ftp server to collaborate... since they left new york, the members of teledubgnosis now span the globe from scandinavia to north america... rather than reassemble in person, they recorded their individual parts in various home and pro studios and then submitted them to producer jason wolford via ftp for cataloging and assembly... this fast and flexible working method also allowed the band to invite remote contributions from other musicians such as east coast luminaries tony maimone (pere ubu), joel hamilton and octopus (dälek), west coast musician leigh marble, and david sims (the jesus lizard, scratch acid), accumulating a rich palette of ideas and sounds to blend in the final mixes...

necessary intergalactic cooperation (n.i.c.) is based in oslo, norway and is no ordinary rock band, rather a musical supergroup drawn together for the purpose of a total global shakedown. drawing from diverse backgrounds in dub, rock, punk, jazz, and electronica, the four members create a potent melting pot of sounds and styles, fusing the past and the future with music that is both timeless and universal... n.i.c seeks to create common ground between established musical genres taking them in exciting new directions...

the musicians
---------------------------------------------------
teledubgnosis’ master sound sculptor jason wolford resides in portland, oregon, freshly transplanted from his beloved brooklyn, ny. after working the 1200s for dallas texas’ infamous decadent dub team in the late 80s to early 90s, he moved on to creating his own musique concréte recordings. pushing his home studio to the limits, he has developed his own sound, forging one giant instrument from stacks of modern and vintage equipment...
---------------------------------------------------
gregory damien grinnell, now based in vermont, was a longtime member of legendary new york ska band the toasters, nyc hip-hop/reggae crew the unity 2, and now fuses electronics and exotic acoustic instruments into the teledubgnosis sound. he has also been a fixture in the new england mulitimedia-video art scene, lending his visual skills and impressive collection of bizarre footage to local electronic artists...
---------------------------------------------------
linking the two projects is drummer ted parsons, a longtime veteran of new york city’s downtown music scene, now living in oslo, norway... ted has collaborated with the likes of foetus, bill laswell and wordsound... his success with bands like prong and swans is a well-documented chapter in music history... he has also played with godflesh and jesu, and most recently toured the world with killing joke in 2004... as a session player, ted’s distinctive drum sounds can be heard on several hundred recordings...
---------------------------------------------------
a well-known name from the oslo rock and electronica scene, markus o klyve handles keyboards and vocals for n.i.c., he has played with bands such as far out fishing, please, and podams, in addition to numerous solo projects... as the band’s “educated” musician, markus puts everything in its right place...
---------------------------------------------------
n.i.c. guitarist chuck frazier originally hails from houston tx and has been involved in several musical success stories from the oslo underground scene - two niggers and a honky, holy toy, and bulldog - to name a few. his virtuoso licks and solos are the exotic spice in the band’s sound...
---------------------------------------------------
with a background in punk and rock, n.i.c. bassist matti h has played in such bands as kundalini and horsemen... his uncanny ability to compose odd sequences with his favorite tool (the midi) contributes much to the band’s original sound...
---------------------------------------------------
gabriel montagudo, better known as kanario, adds synths/programming and vocals with a bit of chaotic order to the n.i.c. sound... originally from spain via another galaxy, kanario has since left n.i.c. to pursue other things - and visit his home planet perhaps?...
---------------------------------------------------
along for the ride is architect fredrik kjelman (kjeks), whose magical sound effects and dub-wise science are an increasingly important factor in n.i.c.'s music...
---------------------------------------------------
closing the album are bonus n.i.c. remixes by justin broadrick (aka jk flesh), a living legend and man of a million musical hats, jesu, godflesh, final, techno animal, god, ice, napalm death, head of david and others...
