BEATUNDERCONTROL:
COSMIC REPACKAGE>>21.04.08

we're slowly taking over scandinavia, hot on the heels of norway's NIC we've got sweden's beatundercontrol, the brainchild of master bassist ulf "rockis" ivarsson... inspired by dub, noise and experimental music, "rockis" has a very clear idea about what this new journey is all about: "music without any genres, open minded attitude, style and creativity with instinct rather than smartness and credibility... think industrial jazz... we're pleased to announce that the new album, cosmic repackage, is all done and dusted and scheduled for april 21st release...

CANED & ABLE: SMOKE >>28.04.08
trickster and martyn savigar impressed with their beats for bars project and have now expanded their range of collaborators to weird, wonderful and sometimes audacious effect...
in the immediate vicinity, there's former specimen and siouxsie & the banshees guitarist jon klein, drummer chris bell [also specimen but a bevy of 80s giants too] and, showing up in the course of this hallucinogenic journey, billie holliday, catatonia, marc bolan and even the young john peel, whose unmistakeable and always welcome tones talk about woodland creatures on 'deaf aid' amidst another calming space-shuffle before singer anna jacyszyn wafts in... the concept is mash-up taken to diverse extremes creating slow motion symphonies which plant some familiar voices in fields of dreams where the mood is deep, dubbed and drenched in ghosts... billie holliday looms in trav'lin light to spine-melting effect... soul clapp creates a new hiphop hybrid, white space is an orchestral treatment of goth-glamsters specimen... all in all this is an opiated aural delight from start to finish, by which time you might be stroking the ceiling like a long-lost friend...

THE SUN PAULO:
ELECTRIC WISDOM SOUND SYSTEM>>12.05.08

anarchy on the dancefloor!! all the way from japan - over an hour of outrageous psychedelic-glam-rock-meets-dance with no compromise on either side... this a huge sound that takes you from 70s west coast to 21st century dancefloor without batting an eyelid... look out for the astounding version of burt bacharach's close to you... the album is now complete and it'll be in the shops, online and concrete, by may 12th

on top of all that i've been listening to seven completed tracks from the new transmission album... anyone who liked the last one will love this, it's just as big and powerful, but with a sprinkling of vocals - sampled, choralesque and even a spot of singing... this should all be unleashead in september

***********************************************
we're also putting together a transit kings album of unreleased rareties, featuring all the vinyl remixes, an orb version of the last lighthouse keeper, a 32-minute live set plus a completely new track... and that'll be the end of the line for transit kings...

***********************************************
alex paterson and dom beken have been beavering away on a marvellous new project - high frequency bandwidth, or HFB if your tongue's tired... this is basically TK moving into the 21st century... using cuddly toys, beats, rappers, singers, orchestras, trumpets, samples, guitars, keyboards, sticks and stones - you name it they've used it or abused it... there's a quick teaser here... it's a major project and there probably won't be an album ready until the end of this year or early next, but the plan is to put up a podcast or two in the meantime and maybe a few downloads to keep up the interest until the final masterpiece is finished... so watch this space...

south london's finest!!
streatham girl meets battersea boy as nina walsh and alex paterson join forces on this lovely
dubbly mystical musical collaboration
- these'll go fast so grab one quick...
here's a nice review from kris needs:
"The Rootmasters are Dr Alex Paterson, taking time out from completing an amazing new Orb album, and Nina Walsh, whose been ploughing her own unique electronic furrow for the last 15 years since running Sabrettes and collaborating with all sorts of well-known reprobates and rabbit impersonators. The debut album hatched in their South London studio over the past year is trailered with a ten-inch featuring four tasty morsels which will swiftly lodge themselves in your pleasure sacs, insidiously working their magic from within. 'Book Of Hours' is a metronomic dub-pulser topped with distant vocals which appear to be Lx somewhat recalling Metal Box Lydon. It comes with an Autolump version which starts with toupee-whisking duberama before a tribal techno beat steams in after three minutes, unleashing divebomb fx attacking a toilet-straining hippo and whistle-hook. The lovely 'Janis Joplin's Mum' is deep and dreamy, all dismembered voice bites before Nina's vocals and stately oceanic theme with gentle hippo flatulence for percussion. 'Elephant Puddle' rides tough, almost military, breaks ushering in sonic madness and extra-terrestrial melodies before a booming bass riff takes it in a new, deranged direction which somehow ends up floating in space-jazz territory. With studio trickery, rampant exploration and avant garde whoopee
of the highest order, Rootmasters have turned
out a magic bus where riding is pure,
brain-scrambling pleasure."
